國健署統計2009到2012年各醫療機構大腸癌病人存活率，台中慈濟醫院與全國醫院平均四年存活率比較，一到四期大腸癌存活率都高於全國平均。癌症中心李典錕主任認為，主要歸功於團隊合作，加上精準醫療，替每位病人量身訂做治療計劃，管控與提升醫療品質，及志工「愛的力量」，才能看見病人邁向更好的明天。

國健署透過全國癌登資料與死亡檔，統計分析的數據，台中慈濟醫院大腸癌四年存活率，第一期93.02%、第二期85.30%、第三期79.23%、第四期37.29%，全高於全國平均的第一期83.52%、第二期77.37%、第三期66.77%、第四期21.39%，每期都比全國平均值約高10%，尤其第四期存活率更是高了近16%，顯示癌症病人得到更好照護品質，平均存活率才高於全國平均。

報告對台中慈濟醫院大腸直腸科團隊來說是值得慶賀的好消息，邱建銘主任表示，跟全世界各大醫學中心比起來，數據毫不遜色。多年努力在政府最具公信力的數據，得到亮眼成果，他說，這證明不管照顧任何的疾病，最重要是顧好整個團隊的心，跟病人與家屬的心。

李典錕主任指出，台中慈濟醫院癌症治療有三個特色，包括團隊合作、品質管控與提升，還有精準醫療。癌症醫療團隊除大腸直腸癌醫師、放射腫瘤科醫師、血液腫瘤科醫師，還有藥師、營養師、社工師、傷口護理師及癌症中心個管師。

藥師會親自說明化學治療藥物相關的給藥方式、副作用並指導如何降低副作用，營養師提供病人術後營養照護諮詢，傷口護理師協助指導造廔口照護，個管師則負責追蹤監測病人的治療，確認病人依治療準則進行治療，計劃好的治療方案是否有確實執行，規則回診檢查，還有與團隊合作監測各種相關的品質指標。

「精準治療」也可稱為個人化醫療，是指依病人性別、年齡、疾病分期，是否有其它疾病，還有癌細胞的基因突變、癌細胞蛋白質的表現和相關的基因和細胞檢測，幫病人挑選最適合的治療處方，以達到治療效果最大化及副作用最小化。

品質管控與提升上，癌症中心定期召開多專科會議，討論和擬定每位病人治療計畫。每年、每季固定檢討、確認每位病人依治療計畫與時程確實執行，設定關於癌症篩檢、診斷、治療、追蹤的品質指標，留治率、完治率，異常事件的分析檢討。李典錕主任說，團隊付出需要人力、時間，更重要的是基於「讓病人更好」的初心，也感恩癌症關懷志工多年來愛的力量，團隊合作協心齊力之下，才能有亮麗成果。
